The Value of Giving Back
Community volunteers are a vital part of any nonprofit organization. They are especially valuable for Recovery Café, contributing to a sense of shared ownership and commitment to our mission. As you’ll read below, the act of giving back gives as much to our volunteers as it does to the Café.
For a little over two years, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at Recovery Café. It’s my way to give back to a community that has helped pave the way for my own recovery. Café is like family, and you can only keep what you have by giving it away. I’ve also completed the peer support training which allows me to offer more help and encouragement to my fellow members on their recovery walk. I also make the best coffee, so they will need to keep me!!
-Donovan Burgess, Recovery Café Member and Volunteer
We had been wanting to be a part of something meaningful so we could give back and make a difference in the community we live in. We’ve known Stephanie for over 20 years and watched as her passion to open a space where all are welcome and accepted, came about. It’s beautiful to witness the people who have lived through and overcome their struggle with addiction. We had no idea how much this would impact us. We have been blessed by being a part of Recovery Café. One of the highlights of this experience has been cooking for one of the recent Next Level power weekends. We felt honored to be asked to serve in this way. To see the sincere hearts of this fantastic group of people moved us deeply. We love Café and all who attend.
