Stress Reduction at the School for Recovery

Stress Reduction at the School for Recovery

The School for Recovery is a safe place where members can learn new skills and strategies to cope with the challenges of life as they make their recovery journey. Relationships Director, John Boehm, CADC1, is an integral part of this learning community, as he facilitates these weekday classes. Here are some insights from three participants of the Friday morning Stress Reduction class:

The Power of Mindset Through Connection: I’ve seen Johnny B. individually and as part of a group for his stress management class. It’s a space that’s safe to be authentic so I can do the work to get to the root cause of my stress. The level of safety he provides comes from his clinical expertise and his genuine concern for me (and all of us). The group dynamic of our meeting is truly fantastic! I’m grateful for the positive feedback and direction John has given me in my life.

Johnny B.’s stress management class has given me tools to help me identify when I’m stressed and things to do to calm myself down. He facilitates the group around the topics that come up for us instead of sticking to his own agenda. It’s a safe place where we all feel we can be honest, vulnerable, and encouraged. I love how he respects everyone and seeks to understand our individual needs. I look forward to Fridays to attend his class and to connect with the other members of the group.

I love Fridays!! I like it so much that when I started my new job, I specifically asked for Friday mornings off!! The Stress Reduction class teaches me not only how to handle stressful situations, but also ways to prevent stress from occurring at all. John teaches me how to listen to my body and brain rather than trying to control everything. Life is stressful, but he has put me in a position to deal with it.
