What Recovery Café Means to Me
Recovery Café is a place to belong when you have nowhere else that feels like home, a place to meet with others in recovery, and a place of encouragement and hope. I love the events they offer, such as the Creative Writing class on Wednesdays and the Art Gathering class is great too. I love my circle of ladies that I have met through the Café, I honestly don’t know what I would do without them during some really trying circumstances. I went on a rafting trip this year for the first time because I have lost approximately 70 pounds and I finally felt healthy enough to go. My friends at Recovery Café helped me to believe in myself and supported me when I moved across town to my own apartment.
One year later, I am still in my own apartment after fighting homelessness since 2012, I have a dog that I can now take on walks, and I’m not in pain anymore. Recovery Café has been a staple in my recovery, I have friends that see the best in me and so I keep coming to Recovery Café because I need connections through healthy relationships that I continue to build. I feel at home for once. I just recently started painting again because I’m finally feeling inspired to create, a feeling I never thought I would get back in recovery. I have lost a lot during my addiction, but I haven’t lost my ability to create something beautiful with the support of my friends. I thank God for leading me to this place daily.
