Letter from the Executive Director, December 2023
by Stephanie Mendenhall
I’m so grateful to be a part of an organization where there is so much positivity. That may be hard to believe considering we are a group of individuals overcoming some of the hardest things people may ever go through. In fact, someone said to me the other day, “I know what you do for a living, and I’m surprised at how much joy you have in your life.” Yes, I am joyful. To do what I do is an honor and a privilege not many people experience. To witness life change on this level is inspiring. To stand alongside people as they find purpose and an identity they can be proud of is fulfilling. My heart is for every person that walks through the door of Recovery Cafe. My hope is that they feel safe and begin to build trust so healing can take place. This is where the magic happens, in the healing.
I encourage each of you to step out of your comfort zone and talk to someone you wouldn’t normally speak to. Let your first thought about someone be positive. Love others without judgment and have compassion for those who are different from you. Every effort we make as individuals to change the way we speak and interact with others eventually impacts our entire community. Join us in breaking the stigma of addiction, in doing so, we all win.
Come see us anytime! We’d love to fill your heart and inspire you!
