Letter from the Executive Director, August 2023
by Stephanie Mendenhall
Growth is defined as an increase in significance.
Back in 2019, when we were in the promotion phase of opening Recovery Café, I was looking for three words that would describe what we were hoping people would experience when they became a part of what we were doing. I remember sitting outside Starbucks, with one of the women who was living in our home at the time, writing a list of words on a napkin. At the end of our brainstorming, three words held more meaning than all the others – Belong, Grow, and Inspire. These three words mean so much more today than they did back then.
Every time the Café is open, my husband Tony and I host a newcomer’s circle with those interested in becoming a member. During this time, I always share that Recovery Café is a place where people belong, grow as a person, and inspire others. Over the last four years, this has held true for so many people. I am excited to say our membership continues to grow in numbers and significance with over 256 people registered and attending one of our 21 Recovery Circles held each week. These 256 people are beautiful souls who have found a place to belong, and an opportunity to grow as a person with the work they are doing on themselves.Equally important, they inspire others in our community to join in. What a beautiful thing to be a part of.
Thank you for supporting the mission of Reclaiming Lives. We truly appreciate those who give monthly and those who donate their time. We’ve only just begun; there are still so many more to reach.
